Officials with Union County Sheriff's Office responded to assist with a shooting investigation in Jonesville on Sunday, said the sheriff.
Sheriff David Taylor confirmed deputies were assisting police at the scene on Alman Street.
Union County Coroner William Holcombe said his office, the Jonesville Police Department and Union County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident. Holcombe called it a "possible homicide," and said it happened Sunday evening.
Police and the coroner identified the victim as 38-year-old Kenneth Bruce George, Jr. of Spartanburg.
Officers on scene said they got the call just before 6 p.m. about a man found suffering from at least one gunshot wound, laying on the porch of a residence on the 300 block of Alman Street. George suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, police said they are uncertain of the relationship between the victim and his attacker. They said they have persons of interest in the case that were being questioned Sunday evening.
The person who lived in the home where the victim was found dead was inside at the time of the incident, said police.
Deputies were looking for the victim's 2004 silver Lincoln LS V-6, which they later found burned in Spartanburg County. Now they are working to locate a man who they said went with George to the Jonesville home and may have information relating to the case.
"If you value life, which people seem like they don't value life these days," said Jonesville Police Chief Carl Jennings, "You would come forward and try to help this family get closure."
