Widespread rain chances are in store over the next few days, all thanks to a low pressure to our south near Florida. We could see over 4 inches of rain total by the time we hit the weekend.
Showers, with pockets of heavy rain, will be likely throughout the day. Highs will stay barely below normal for this time of year reaching 78 in the Upstate and 74 for the mountains. Several flood warnings have been issued for parts of the area.
Thursday and Friday will be similar with perhaps a few additional T-storms during the afternoon. Wherever T-storms develop we could see localized flooding from the heavy rainfall.
The good news is that the forcing won't be incredibly strong, which means we shouldn't see constant, torrential rainfall. However, as the ground saturates through the week, it might not take much to cause some issues. Our severe threat will also be minimal due to the tropical nature of the atmosphere (warmer aloft, creating less vigorous updrafts and ultimately weaker storms).
We are ahead on rain for 2018, but slightly behind for the month of May. We'll likely make up that deficit quickly as we could see between 3-5 inches of rainfall by late in the weekend!
