Spartanburg police have arrested a man accused of assaulting a woman as she walked in a park and trying to cut her throat.

Police said the assault happened shortly before midnight Tuesday night at Highland Park on Norris Street.

Police met with the victim at her home and said her clothing was torn in places and dirty, showing signs of a struggle.

The victim told them she left her home to go for a walk after an argument with her boyfriend and walked to the park. She was walking towards a port-a-potty when a strange man in a red hoodie started attacking her.

The suspect reportedly charged at the victim, knocked her to the ground, and then began choking her.

The woman said she screamed for help and tried to fight off the unknown attacker, and he pulled out a knife and tried to cut her throat. The woman was able to get away by kicking and punching the man and then running off.

Officers said they located a possible suspect and the victim positively identified him as her attacker.

The suspect was identified as Stacy Woodruff, 40. He was charged with aggravated assault and battery, according to online jail records.
