Barnette said the home invasion happened back on April 24, 2017 at residence on Sprouse Road.

According to Barnette, one of the victims reported being assaulted in the yard, and then forced inside the home while a gun was held to his head. Once inside, the victim said he fought with the assailant, knocking the weapon out of the attacker's hands.

During the fight, the victim said he yelled to his brother for help. His brother entered the room armed with a shotgun and shot at both suspects, said Barnette.

Phillips and his accomplice, 22-year-old Destinie Nichole Matheny of Inman, then fled the home, said the solicitor's office.

Phillips and Mattheny drove to the emergency room at Mary Black Hospital and requested medical treatment for their wounds. That's when the solicitor's office said a hospital representative reported the shootings to the Sheriff's Office.

Phillips is required to serve 85% of his 20-year sentence before becoming eligible for release.Court documents said his prior criminal record includes convictions for marijuana possession, possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for police, reckless driving and third-degree domestic violence.
